Our
church was founded in 1814 in a log school house beside an Indian
trail by a man names Moses Clark. At that time it was on the edge
of the frontier, and a war with Britain was raging on neighboring
Lake Ontario. These pioneers later officially incorporated as
the "First Baptist Church and Society in Greece, New York,"
in 1832 and built a church which was to serve the congregation
in its various forms for 130 years.
A
modern facility - our current home - was built in 1962 only 700
feet from the original building. Throughout the years as the Town
of Greece transformed from a frontier settlement to a farming
community to suburban bedroom community, Greece Baptist Church
has sought to lead by example, serving God by serving God's people.
Presently we have approximately 300 active members of which 130
to 150 will attend every Sunday.
Our
Vision
The entire nature of our greater community has been undergoing
dramatic changes over the last few decades. As a result of what
has been going on around us, we made a concerted effort to determine
our relevance and discern what God is calling us to do. We drafted
the following vision statement which hangs over our sanctuary
entrance. It tells our visitors and it reminds us daily how we
view our role in this world. It states;
Serving
together in Christian Love
We see an open Christian community that is spiritually vital and
alive with services and programs that are joyful, challenging,
and inspirational. We intentionally make an effort to reach people
and provide opportunities for them to discern God's will for their
lives. As a caring church family, we actively work to elevate
people's condition of living, both physically and spiritually.
